I've been using Mac OS X 10.10 [Yosemite] for about a week now, and it has good features and bad.

First, the good: In OS X 10.9 [Mavericks], the Preview application allowed me to annotate my Poser renderings and other pictures with speech balloons. Yosemite improves on that by allowing speech balloons to be resized and their tails repositioned, just as in Comic Life. I'm STILL waiting for Digimage Arts to finish the new version of Color-It! for Intel Macs. I use Paintbrush, which is open source, but it just doesn't have useful features like smudging, non-rectangular selection and pattern fills.

Now, the bad: I've always cleared my history menu before quitting a Safari session. Now when I use Safari under Yosemite, I have to go through a logon screen every time I visit a Web site that requires a username and password. At least Safari's AutoFill completes the forms automatically, but I still consider this behavior awkward and not befitting Apple.

Among my other projects, I'm still expanding my comic text font at MidcoNet. Most recently, I added some Latin ligatures and a replacement character (white question mark in a black diamond, in the Specials range). I'm not planning to include arrows, block elements or box-drawing characters in my font.

I am having one problem: After I validate my font in FontForge, I am unable to generate a TrueType file anywhere on my computer. I'd be grateful for any help from other FontForge users.

Barely more than a week after congratulating CVS Health on its decision to stop selling tobacco products in its 7,700 pharmacies, I've learned from ChristianNews.net that the drugstore chain is pushing male homosexuality in its advertising campaigns. DirecTV is doing the same to promote its NFL Sunday Ticket.

Alas, it seems that every U.S. company that does business on the national level is friendly to homosexuals and hostile to Christians who defend real marriage.

Bravo, CVS!

According to news reports, CVS pharmacies finally removed all tobacco products from their store shelves. Although I've never shopped at a CVS pharmacy, I have long considered it a conflict of interest for a pharmacy to sell both medical and health products on the one hand, and tobacco products on the other.

The next step is to persuade convenience stores to stop selling not only tobacco products, but also electronic cigarets and anything else that contains nicotine.

I just had my second eye operation in Sioux Falls this Thursday: a cataract removal operation on my left eye. With the cataract gone, everything around me appears brighter than before. I feel better, not having to zoom in on my computer display or hold printed pages close to my eyes. In fact, I actually see better now through my left eye than through my right eye.
